Nelson campervan hire

Nelson, a hidden gem at the top of the South.

Coastal, sunny, long-established and central, Nelson is small but set amongst some stunning scenery and has a wonderful climate. It receives the most sun each year of anywhere in New Zealand, and is the second oldest settled city. Geographically, it is more or less in the smack bang middle of the country- despite being in the South Island, it is just north of Wellington in the North Island. Nelson is a beautiful city and is close to some especially beautiful parts of New Zealand. Nelson is small enough to walk around, especially in the city centre. Trafalgar Street runs through the CBD and is the centre for shopping and urban entertainment. Nelson’s major landmark, the Christ Church Cathedral on Church Hill, sits at the top of the street. The Maitai River runs through Nelson, providing some lovely inner-city riverside walks. The jewel in the crown of the Nelson region lies a short drive out of town. The Abel Tasman National Park is a beautiful area of native bush and many golden-sand coves and beaches. Kayaking and hiking are the most popular ways of seeing the park, and there are many kayak tours available, as well as a 3-5 day track with camping huts. Surfers can head to Ruby Bay on the coast near Nelson or Rabbit Island, a sand island next to Ruby bay with road access. Head to Nelson if you want to take a campervan trip around the beautiful northern South Island. Abel Tasman National Park, Golden Bay and the Marlborough sounds are some of the best scenery in the country, and a trip from Nelson to Queenstown via the West Coast is particularly spectacular
