Perth, your key to explore Western Australia.
Perth sits alone on the west coast of Australia, far from any other large cities. Despite its isolation, Perth can hold its own as an urban centre. It is sunny, easy-going and safe, sprawling along the Swan River and Indian Ocean coast with a number of distinct areas. Beyond Perth is the huge state of Western Australia which takes up one third of the country and is home to the Golden Outback region.
The city’s centre is nestled into a curve of the Swan river and overlooked by Kings Park, a huge area of greenery right next to Perth’s CBD. Views of the city are spectacular from the double-helix shaped DNA tower in the park. This and the parks which line much of the river help to give Perth its uncrowded and pleasant inner-city vibe. Shops and restaurants line the streets of the downtown area which is centered around Victoria Square and St Mary’s Cathedral.
Fremantle is a hidden gem in the Perth region. Although it has been mostly swallowed up by the sprawling suburbs, it is a city in its own right, a scenic port, and has a unique atmosphere. ‘Freo’ as it is known is a favourite day trip from Perth. Cottesloe Beach is another wonderful spot, a picture-perfect white sand beach on the coast.
Perth is a long flight away from most places, but well worth the trip. As well as being a great place to spend a few days, landing in Perth opens up an often overlooked part of Australia. The Indian Ocean coast and Golden Outback are spectacular places to visit.
