Broome
Broome has a quirky history as an historic pearling town, and is now a pearler of a spot for a sunny holiday and a great starting point for a western or northern Australia road trip. It shines during Australia’s winter, when the tropical hot climate becomes pleasantly warm and the skies are mostly dry. The town has great beaches and an eclectic, multicultural atmosphere and population. Weather, nature and people come together to make Broome a wonderful town to visit. Broome’s inhabitants and their ancestors were lured there from all over the world by the pearls which could be found in the oysters on the seabed. The early pearlers made their mark- despite being a small town, it has a Chinatown section thanks to its Asian settlers. The architecture is also varied, as is the cuisine available in town. Broome’s beaches are amongst its best features. Cable Beach is the best-known, a wonderful spot where white sand meets the Indian Ocean. East-facing, the sunsets are stunning here. Riddell Beach is a smaller, rockier beach on Gantheaume Point, and to the north are a series of beautiful, uncrowded beaches reachable by 4WD only. Broome is a unique place that is uniquely located by itself in a remote corner of Australia. A road trip from here could take you to some out-of the way places on the Indian Ocean coast, and across to Darwin and the incredible Kakadu National Park.
